A Legacy Built on Tradition
We’re not just raising cattle—we’re continuing a family legacy that has been passed down through six generations. For over 100 years, our ranch has been a place where hard work, passion, and family values thrive. We’re proud to keep the traditions of our grandfathers alive, raising cattle the same way they did—with patience, care, and a little bit of Coors Light along the way. (After all, it’s about balance, right?)
We do things a little differently here. While large-scale operations might rush the process, we take the time to raise our cattle with the highest standards of care. Our approach is simple: treat the land right, care for our animals, and deliver a product that’s second to none.
When you work with us, you're not just buying beef—you’re part of the process. From selecting your cuts to customizing your order, we’re here to make sure everything is just the way you want it. Want your steaks cut a little thicker? Prefer a specific number of steaks in each pack? We’ve got you covered. You get to call the shots on how your beef is prepared, and we’ll make sure it’s exactly how you like it.

The Legacy and Future of Diamond B Ranch: A Journey from Past to Present
The Diamond B Ranch, rooted in the heart of Warner Springs, is not just a place—it’s a story. A story that began almost as soon as the town of Warner Springs itself, unfolding through generations of hard work, commitment to the land, and the passion for ranching that has stood the test of time.
A Rich Legacy Built on Hard Work
It all started when Thomas Taylor, originally from Belfast, Ireland, arrived in Grass Valley, California, with hopes of making his fortune in the gold fields. Along with his wife, Ann Jane, and their growing family, Thomas’ journey led them to Julian, California, where he was recruited by the Stonewall Mine to work as an amalgamator. Little did they know, this would set the stage for the family’s deep roots in California ranching.
Their son, Sam Taylor, was born in Grass Valley and eventually discovered that mining was not his passion. Ranching, however, was in his blood. By the late 1800s, Sam joined the Vail Cattle Company in Warner’s Ranch, where his future would intertwine with that of Mary Jane Helm, the daughter of Turner Helm and Maria de Jesua, a local Native American. The two married in 1892, and Sam’s role with the Vail Cattle Company continued to evolve. As cattle boss for the Little Rincon section and later a foreman, the Taylor family’s connection to ranching grew stronger.
In 1922, Sam and Mary Jane purchased a 160-acre homestead in Warner Springs, just a short ride from Warner’s Ranch. This marked the beginning of what would become the Diamond B Ranch. They thrived on their ranch, raising cattle, growing orchards, and creating a life grounded in the love of the land.
Diamond B Ranch: A New Chapter
The story continued with Sam’s son, Banning Taylor, and his wife, Nelda. In 1945, Banning and Nelda took over the family ranch, marking the birth of Diamond B Ranch—a name that would carry the Taylor legacy forward. Over the years, Diamond B became a bustling operation, filled with family, cattle, and a deep connection to the community and neighboring reservations.
As time passed, Banning and Nelda’s stewardship of the ranch transformed it into a symbol of hard work, commitment, and community. From growing crops to raising cattle, the Taylor family has seen it all, but through each season, one thing has remained constant: the ranch's dedication to quality, tradition, and family.
A New Legacy for the Future
Today, Diamond B Ranch remains a testament to generations of ranching expertise, but it is also evolving to meet the needs of a new generation. In 2019, the ranch expanded into a direct-to-consumer beef program, offering the community access to premium beef while continuing the tradition of caring for the land and livestock. The legacy of Banning Taylor lives on, but with new energy, as the ranch continues to innovate and grow.
In addition to the direct-to-consumer beef program, the family has brought back the Diamond L cattle brand and has become known as Diamond Land & Cattle Co., a nod to the past and the future. This historic brand, once held by Lillian Taylor, is now passed on to the next generation of Taylor women, generation 6! It’s a fitting symbol of the ranch’s forward-looking vision, honoring the past while embracing what’s to come.
Honoring History and Embracing the Future
The ranch’s rich history was recently recognized when it was inducted into the California Agricultural Heritage Club in 2023. This accolade, celebrated by the youngest generation of the Taylor family, signals a bright future for Diamond Land & Cattle Co. and the next century of ranching that lies ahead.
As we honor the legacy of Banning, Nelda, and all those who have shaped the Diamond B Ranch, we are excited to continue this journey with Diamond L. Whether you're a customer of our direct-to-consumer beef program or someone interested in the rich agricultural heritage of the region, we invite you to be part of the story.
